The district of Birbhum occupied its place in the Global map due to the presence of Visva-Bharati University at Bolpur. th this background Birbhum Institute of Engineering & Technology was established by ICARE Birbhum under the Chairmanship of Sri Somnath Chatterjee, Honourable Speaker of the Fourteenth Loksabha. The Vice-chairman is Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Honourable Minister for External Affairs, Government of India. The approval from A.I.C.T.E. For the Institution was received in 1999. Following the norms of A.I.C.T.E. a 21 member Board of Governors started functioning from 15th January, 2000 with Honourable Professor Padmasree (Dr.) Ramaranjan Mukherji as its Chairperson. Situated at sprawling Techno-Complex of the Tilpara region of Suri town, Birbhum Institute of Engineering & Technology is the pioneer Engineering Institute in the District of Birbhum. It is emerging as a 'Quality Institute' for nurturing the Techno-Professionals of the present age. The Institute is proud to receive aids from the Government of West Bengal, Birbhum Zilla Parishad, West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL), and M.P.L.A.D. funds for the development of the infrastructure and campus.
